Goodness me, it's already spring! How time flies when you're having fun.
Welcome to our April devlog for Mithra, a point and click adventure game where you investigate your ties to an ancient cult. I'm Jared Rigby, the programmer for the project and I'll be sharing some details of what's been happening behind the scenes since we last spoke.
Over the last month, we've been working on some major UI updates, took a trip to Norwich to be part of a brand new indie game festival in the UK, and had the chance to sit down (virtually) with Insider Gaming to discuss Mithra ahead of their online showcase happening at the end of May.
New codex, who dis?

On the development side of things, my main focus for this month has been to completely overhaul our in game menu for players.
After taking the original Mithra demo to a number of events across the UK, one regular piece of feedback we received was the fact it was quite anticlimactic to not need to complete any form of puzzle of decode the hidden codex messages within the game. To be honest, I completely agreed.
That's why we have spent the last month completely redesigning the in game menu of Mithra to give Kyra access to a brand new cyberdeck. This is a piece of kit that she built for herself, housing a code breaker, games emulator, app runner, and communicator.
The way in which we designed this device was not only to give Kyra access to tools in-keeping with her hacker mindset, but it also allowed us the freedom to completely rebuild how hidden messages are decoded within the game.
In the initial demo you all you needed to do was to find a clue and then click a single button to decode the message... not very satisfying. Now, you still need to find a clue within the game world, but this will instead unlock a small puzzle to complete before you gain access to the decrypted message.

Our older design vs our new in-universe cyberdeck menu
If you want to try out is updated version of the game for yourself, we'll be running a closed playtest of the newly developed London act of the game in the near future. If you want to get involved, all details will be shared within our community Discord.
Debug Games Festival 2026
On 25th April, I was at Debug Games Festival in the east of England. This was a new event created by the team behind Debug Magazine (an indie game focused magazine published in the UK) and gave over 100 local developers the chance to showcase their game to the public.

The public response to the demo was really positive and it has given the team a moral boost to keep working to make Mithra the best game possible. We're massively grateful to everyone who came by our stand to try out our demo and provided feedback.

Insider Gaming Showcase
In the online festival space, Mithra will be part of the Insider Gaming Showcase on 28th May 2026.

This is a festival dedicated to indie games who are yet to receive any significant outside financial help (that's us!) and will showcase tonnes of amazing projects from around the world. Throughout the event Insider Gaming will also be sharing articles and developer interviews relating the to games involved with the festival.
Dan and I sat down with Michael Straw from Insider Gaming earlier in April to discuss the inspirations behind Mithra, our development journey so far, and we spoke about our upcoming Kickstarter campaign!
We're excited to share the interview with you and hope you'll check out the festival at the end of May!
New marketing milestone
April also saw us breach the 3000 wishlist barrier on Steam!
We'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been supporting the project over the last couple of years. Everyone we're met through local events or online festivals help to keep the team motivated as we work towards the full release later this year. If you're looking for more ways to support the development of Mithra, the best thing you can do is share our Kickstarter page far and wide! The more pre-followers we achieve, the more successful the campaign is likely to be.
